Living green in the city is not always easy to do when the inventory of green homes is as small as it is. Well, your opportunity to live green, while enjoying the convenience of one of Salt Lake City’s most walkable neighborhoods, is here with this home at 1048 S. Lake Street.
Designed by A. K. Smith Architects this home was built the environment in Mind. With an exterior of Structural Integrated Panels (SIPS) this home is already 65% more energy efficient than standard frame construction and 2 1/2 times stronger! But the exterior is only the beginning, an emphasis on green living was made throughout this home. Watch this post for more photos and information on all of the energy efficient systems that will be in place when this home is completed in about 3 weeks!

Celebrate the City: 1894 will take place on May 2, 2009 from 3:00 – 7:00 pm, at Salt Lake City’s historic Washington Square and will be open to the public.
The City & County Building grounds will be transformed into an atmosphere of a late-19th century carnival. Celebrate the City will offer participants a look into the era the City & County Building was completed in 1894. Celebrate the City: 1894 will feature guided tours of the building and its iconic clock tower.
9th and 9th urban farm featured in Catalyst Magazine
April 3, 2009 by Andrew Stone · Leave a Comment
Recently my dear friends and neighbors, Holly and Chap moved away to a new home in the NorthEast. It was a sad day and they are truly missed here in the neighborhood. It was wonderful though to see that they did not leave unnoticed as they were featured in this months issue of the Catalyst Magazine.
Holly and Chap were people after my own heart. They were urban farmers and they brought a little bit of the farm life to our neighborhood and the city. With chickens, goats and bees along with a wonderful vegetable garden they had it all. Me, I only have a vegetable garden a compost heap and composting worms. I am afraid that I don’t have room for the goats, but upon leaving Holly and Chap gifted me the goat house that will soon be my chicken coop. Yes, the chickens are returning to the neighborhood.
What Holly and Chap did for me was return me to the not so urban farm that I had as a child. The one where the geese and ducks play with the goats and chickens ran with the quail and we rode the horses around the cows. It was a wonderful life that I missed and thanks to Holly and Chap I had a chance to relive and will now even relive personally.
So make sure you jump over to Catalyst Magazine and take a look at the story. Or better yet, pick up a copy, it’s free.
If you want to buy an urban farm of your own, their house is for sale and the fertile back yard is waiting for your touch! You can see it here or feel free to call me if you would like to see it in person.
Salt Lake Newcomers

When times are hard, they’re harder at restaurants. Even in flush times, about half the restaurants that open end up folding. It’s just a tough business. And in a state where you can’t count on the extra bucks that a bar brings in (although we’re all happy about the new club law), it’s even tougher. So I was heartened to hear from Jason Mathis at Downtown Alliance about these new places set to open downtown:
J Wong’s – Chinese restaurant: Just opened on 200 South across from the Salt Palace
Simply Sushi- Sushi restaurant: Opening soon on the corner of 200 West and 400 South
Eva- restaurant: Next to Cheers to You and Shogun between 300 and 400 South Main
Bay Leaf- Café- 159 South Main – supposed to be opening in a couple of weeks
The Beer Hive- Brew Pub: 100 block of Main St. next to Vienna Bistro – supposed to be opening in April
Sandbar Mexican Grill- Old Pierpont Café on Pierpont Ave: Opening mid April – owned by same group that owns Lumpy’s, Club Bliss, and The Hotel
Small Plate Restaurant & Wine Bar opening in the old Exchange Place Club in mid April
Bruges Waffles- Belgian Waffles: Uffen’s Marketplace across from Pioneer Park
Tapika- Restaurant: Matt Caputo’s new restaurant inside Caputo’s deli
How exciting!!!

I like to walk, I like to ride my bike, I like to join the gallery strolls, dine at neighborhood restaurants, shop at the neighborhood produce stands and pick up my paper from the corner market. To do all of these things, my family makes our home in the Downtown Salt Lake City Neighborhood of East Liberty/Sugarhouse. When we take time off we enjoy traveling throughout Utah, The United States, Europe and Asia.
Nothing beats working with a neighbor when you are looking for a home in a specific area. They know what the homes are like, what loan packages work best for the area and any special programs that may be available to buyers in the area. So it is always wise to choose a mortgage expert who knows the neighborhood where you are looking.
