Welcome to 9th and 9th living. Stop in and subscribe to our newsletter.

Welcome to 9th and 9th living. This website is dedicated to life in the 9th and 9th, East Liberty and Sugar House neighborhoods of Salt Lake City. It is where Rebecca Hamilton and I make our homes.

1st-cf-card-028When you visit this site you will find information on events and activities in the neighborhood and as this site grows I will offer neighborhood business information, a calendar of events, real estate activity and homes for sale, along with all the other information available throughout my site. Please feel free to stop in regularly and look around.

In addition, we want to provide this as a free, regularly updated source of information on local businesses.  Are they having a sale?  Are they holding a workshop?  that kind of stuff.  We also intend to keep a concise community calendar.

So how are we going to do this?  Well, that is where you, the business owners and residents of these neighborhoods come in.  Tell us when things are going on.  We’ll add it to the calendar and get the word out through our regular email newsletter.  You can contact us at anytime using the contact us link at the top of the page. Feel free to fill us in on everything and we will do all the work in getting the word out on our site.  Free advertising for you, your business or your organization.

You may have  stopped in here today because you  received our postcard, it was pretty, but we hate sending out paper mail.  It is not only expensive and time consuming, but it also clogs your mailbox and wastes natural resources.  We do not intend to send out many more of them for those reasons.  So, for regular updates you need to subscribe to the newsletter.  By using the form below.  Please know that by signing up below you are not going to subject yourself to spam emails and a mailbox full of junk.  We will update you monthly with information only if there is information to share.  If not, you will not receive an email.  We will not sell your email address or give it away and no one else is going to bother you because you gave us your email address.  It is safe with us.  Wouldn’t it be nice to know the next time they do a street party on Windsor?

Enjoy the Unique Architecture of 9th and 9th

March 15, 2009 by Andrew Stone · Leave a Comment

Filled with late 19th and early 20th century cottages, bungalows, Tudor and Victorian homes the 9th and 9th, East Liberty and Sugar House neighborhoods of Salt Lake City provide you with an eclectic and diverse mixture of architectural styles and homes. Built with ingrained character, many homes feature amazing details with leaded glass windows, dark wood moulding, scroll work and beautiful, ornate fire places. (For a detailed PDF file of Salt Lake City’s many original architectural styles, click here.)

If you are looking for something a little more modern, you will find that as well. Recent trends are bringing “urban infill” homes to lots where the original home was no longer salvageable. Amongst these homes you find traditional construction and ultra modern dwellings. Many have been built green and LEED for homes certifications are being sought on some. If green is your thing and energy savings along with lower utility bills are what you are looking for, many homes have been well updated and even more are ready for your green updates and to take that step into the green future of homes.

One thing is for certain in this area of Salt Lake City and that is that almost anyone can find the home that will suit them and their style. Along with that you will also find an amazing neighborhood with close access to parks, major shopping centers, the center of the city and quirky neighborhood centers where you can dine in local restaurants, shop in locally owned stores and sip fine coffee. Almost everything is within walking distance down tree-lined streets and Salt Lake City’s farmers market or the center of the city is a 15 minute bicycle ride away.

It can’t get better than this!

If you are interested in looking for homes that may be for sale in the area, you can start your search by clicking here.

New green resource in Salt Lake City!

October 31, 2007 by Andrew Stone · Leave a Comment

I am very excited to announce the opening of a new green resource here in Salt Lake City! Located just a few blocks from my house within the East Liberty community and just North of Sugar House is the Earth Goods General Store. They are located at 1249 S. 900 E.

According to their website the store will feature Thom’s (the owners) choice of merchandise and services that will reflect the values of his environmentally conscious consumers: locally produced, socially responsibility, environmentally sustainable, and all conveniently located in a one-stop-shop for home and business customers. Plus they recycled an existing building! The have made great use of what looks like an old Circle K that had been converted into a local mini mart many years ago. No tear down and rebuild here. Just a great use for an existing building.

My wife and I stopped in briefly and walked through the store a few weekends back and before they were actually selling product and we were very excited to see what was coming. This is an awesome store that is within walking distance of one the most walkable communities in the valley.

Enjoy the following video of the owner explaining more about his store:
